Gaze 3

Ellen Liguori

I have a bit of an ADD pattern to my art process. I do a drawing, measuring proportions, and then focus on some tight detail. It seems to be the only way I can get a sense that it feels "right". The deepest light and darks are the added in. The irony is that this really starts to make the image pop, but also sets back the rendering by requiring that all the hard wrought details, now get a makeover with the newly established values (light and dark intensities). It's a bit of a rework of a large percentage of the piece. Another benefit/detriment is the art becomes "dirtier", as in fewer clean lines, but the net effect is that it looks more painterly. Lots of adjustments at this stage, but I am beginning to hear the piece sing.....
