I love pastel. It is messy as all get out, dusting my phone screen as I type, but so forgiving. In the recent challenging adventure drawing the black on black dogs, out of sheer desperation and experimentation, I learned that if you crush a pastel and blend it with a wee bit of water, you can enhance it's color intensity. I found myself delicately dabbing bits of the pastel paste in select areas of the surface, as called for by the piece.
In the process of photographing this piece, side by side with it's reference for a post, I sometimes can more easily assess flaws as I go. Odd, that it can be easier to see that way, than using my eyes directly. Hmmmmmmm.
